Love that Vanessa took the leap and is doing this series, this Barn Owl looks extraordinary already in this early stage.

This piece is part of a series of Nocturnes I've been working on this year, I felt compelled to create this body of work during a time which I felt great fear at the shift in political landscapes, it truly felt like the dawn of a dark future, so I wanted to surround myself with creatures comfortable and most confident in darkness. They became my familiars as I struggled to understand and navigate the new landscape. Each of these pieces mean a tremendous amount to me, they have very much been my sanctuary this last year, and as they fly and flutter off to their new homes I know they will take with them their protective presence and all my love.
So it goes...

At the moment my focus is really on keeping the feeling of motion and weightlessness of a bird in flight, as many of you may know Barn Owls hunt in almost total silence, so I'm trying hard to portray that softness of feather and wing that enable such flight. Once that's done I'm excited to get my tiny brushes out (they are banished to a cupboard to keep temptation at bay) and dive into the details!

She's not even into the fine details yet and it looks this good? Wow beyond human abilities.

Easy decision now to use the money I would've spent today and frame a print.

You on her mailing list? Has all the details. She makes a new site for the drop.
