Been stupid busy for a long time and just now catching up on threads.

So, Duke probably could have made a lot of money if the intent wasn't to get these in the hands of people. It's far from a for-profit venture. In fact, Duke has a mountain of posters from different projects that nobody bought but he's a crappy flipper and rarely sells anything. This venture pretty well runs in the red.

Dat don't make sense doe. Why not basically do it like a "timed edition" where whichever EBers log in during the drop time can buy one. That way you ain't stuck with extras and when a ZOMG drop like this one happens ya can sell mo product.

If you're going to make a bunch of money on it, you do something like that. The problem with the timed edition method you talked about is that you can't set the price up front, which is based on splitting the cost evenly between everybody involved. The way it works is a poll is taken to get an interest level so we can set our target number. That number is worked against other factors like printing costs, artist fees, shipping from the printer, AP shipping, etc. That final cost is divided by the number of people who are in and the price is set. Ideally, everybody gets what they said they wanted with no money left in the pot and no money shortage. It almost never happens and we end up with some left. Yours truly usually buys them up. Sometimes it's 3 or 4 and sometimes it's 20.

It's not about selling product. It's about making enough posters so that everybody who wants one gets one while collecting just enough money to pay for it all with no money left over.
