SHOW US YOUR ORIGINAL PAINTINGS, etc...."NICE" ART
I think it is pretentious. On the other hand, if you have guests in your house and want to share with them, why not make a guide to the art on the walls that they can reference. This would ideally include much more information than just artist, title, and medium. Maybe personal history of the artist, background information on the piece you own, and maybe photos of other pieces by the artist that you don't own. I have thought about this often, and have every intention of doing this for my own art.shredkeenan wrote:Any of you guys put museum/gallery-style labels on your walls with the art? What do y'all think - Is it pretentious? Fun? Interesting?
I think I'd go for something small and unobtrusive, like 1"x3" size.

Thanks for the feedback, I had a feeling that might be the case. I like Treweman's idea.
Yeah, and if you do have someone come over that takes a genuine interest, they'll likely ask about it. And then that becomes a conversation starter, which is good too. So yeah, I'd definitely leave those labels off. And I wouldn't even do the guide thing. Have a conversation with them about it. Discuss it, share your enthusiasm with them. It's a lot more engaging and infectious when you actually have a discussion about it, rather than handing them a packet of reading material. It's a nice idea, but I'd much rather say those things in words to their face.Codeblue wrote:If you're lucky, they might say "that's pretty cool".
So it goes...
All my art is labeled. I introduce all visitors to my abode with a grand, sweeping gesture of my arm and the statement, "You are welcome to view and enjoy my gallery!" I also serve Mr. Pibb and smoked salmon on tiny bits of toast.
Can I RSVP for the next showing? And/or sign up for the collector preview?tweetick wrote:All my art is labeled. In all seriousness, just don't.shredkeenan wrote:Any of you guys put museum/gallery-style labels on your walls with the art? It's something I've been thinking about doing.
