Cabin in the Woods - SPOILER THREAD

Film flames, episode episodes. Post lifetime is 1 year.

My issue with the picture is that it drymounting sucks. It is not an anti-motif/genre film that is actually well done like Unforgiven, but a pile of steamy dung that is lauded as some MASTERPIECE by nerdy fanboys who somehow convinced themselves that it is. The only decent thing about the entire thing is Richard Jenkins and 99% of the individuals in the screening I saw it at during spring break would not know Richard Jenkins from Leroy Jenkins (and that is being very kind with the percentage, since there were actors from the film in attendance [I imagine they know who he is]).

Huh, so if someone disagrees with your opinion of the movie, there must be something wrong with him. I feel like I use the phrase cognitive dissidence way too much on a poster site, but this feels like a perfectly illustrated example.

Did I say that there was something wrong with you? Don't go catching feelings; I post very straightforward, when I deem it necessary to post.

No worries. I didn't take it personal. It's just strange that the way you deal with being in the minority with regards to liking/disliking a movie is to declare people that like it "nerdy fanboys." I think the discussion would be more fruitful if you described why you thought cabin was underserving of the praise it's receiving instead of simply saying, "if you liked it, you must be a fanboy because it sucked." I can respect a thought out position and even admire one that is different than the generally held view.

On an unrelated side note, I think it's important for people to realize when this film was made and specifically what type of horror movie was popular at the time.

I think you may be confusing the Expresso Beans world with the real world. And if you have not noticed -- maybe you don't know me that well -- I don't really care if what I think is the minority or super majority or otherwise. I watched this turd on 20 March; it had potential but tried entirely too hard to be cute. I will waste no time breaking this junk down; I would rather spend my time actually re-watching good horror like, for example, Rosemary's Baby.

Rosemary's Baby had the most boring kill scenes ever. Polanski shoulda given Cassavetes a chainsaw and a boner for preggo chicks.

Saw Cabin last night. Really enjoyed it. Fun movie. My favorite part was when they go down in the "elevator" and you start seeing the creatures. Awesome moment.

IJ,that Rosemary's Baby talk is blasphemy. It's perfect 8)

It's nice to finally reembrace you after avoiding you the last week to avoid anything about this movie.

That said, it's been a while since I left a movie with an adrenalin buzz like that. Pretty much my two favorite parts have already been discussed (the unicorn and the "good work, zombie hand").

That said, there were two things I felt were quasi loose ends -

What was the "glitch from upstairs"? And I felt like there was going to be something more about the guy doing security in the room that seemed very uneasy about everything.

The glitch was Marty messing with the wires. Since the base is right under the Cabin, anytime anyone mentions Upstairs they're talking about the kids. And I loved that guy, he was a great red herring (since we all spent half the movie waiting for him to "grow a conscience" and start helping the kids. Even though that would've been the worst thing for him to do).

And I don't get people who have a strong dislike of this movie due to it being not scary enough or some such thing. Folks, that's usually how horror/comedies work. Either they're too scary to be funny, or too funny to be scary (and generally I prefer the latter, simply because they're usually way more enjoyable). I really can't think of one that manages to be both at once.

Saw this last night and had a really great time. I kind of figured where it was going based on the opening credits, but I thought it was great for fans of the horror genre! I loved all of the little references and nods (especially the Hellraiser bits). I think by far my favorite part was with the Japanese school girls and the frog!

I just loved that they pointed out that you would have to chemically alter all of these people to make them act as stupid as people in normal horror movies. And of course the Unicorn and Mermaid kills. You only have to watch for like five minutes for you to be able to tell it was written by Joss Whedon though.
Another thing I really dug was that they showed that all the characters were friends, and would realistically hang out with each other.

Dear anybody, please do a badass print of Rian Johnson's Brick. If necessary, I'll buy them all.
