ok just picked my SW set up at the framers, were still prepping the wall so not ready to hang but snapped this pic at the framers.

they were kind of pissed I came in the day they were ready (they wanted a few days to enjoy them) and in the four hours they were on the wall someone tried to buy them.

so here is a teaser...

Image

When I get them up tonight I'll take close ups and explain the mounting and the frame.

I picked the frame because it reminded me of the profile of an Imperial Star Destroyer.

all right had to repaint the wall, but it was worth it. This is also my first "Framing" post so if I miss something or you have a question just ask.

These things are massive and the framer and I wanted to make this an impressive presentation but still let the prints speak for themselves.

Image

They take the entire wall of the far end of our living room which is over 11 feet wide. They're opposite a huge picture window that looks towards downtown Pittsburgh.

Image

We went for a frame that while chunky in length was very low profile so they don't push very far out. The hinged mat job is where Mike at The Framesmith really knocked it out of the park! If your looking for a framer in Pittsburgh I strongly recommend these guys http://www.framesmith.com/

We used a 4 ply colored rag as the base and then put a 8 ply rag on top, we only pushed the 4 ply an eighth of an inch out so there is just a slight definition of color around each print. We matched each 4 ply to a stronger but lesser used color in each of the prints so were hitting a color note that matches but does not blend when viewing from a distance. But the large bevel in the 8 ply really sets everything off and makes the use of color very very subtle.

In Jedi we matched to the dark green used for the rear trees.

Image

In Empire we matched to the burnt orange in the bottom half of Fett

Image

And in New Hope we matched to the dark red that makes up Mos Eisley

Image

Everything was museum mounted with acid free everything and the always lovely wheat paste, we used museum glass for glare and UV protection. Given we were going to have lights on these guys the glare free was super important. To be honest I spent about 300 less on the framing then I did on my purchase price.

But it's not every day you going to frame something this bad ass...

Since these are at the top of my to-frame list, mind if I ask how much that ran you? You can PM or ballpark it. Just...need to know how much I should expect if I want something comparable.

You did one drymount of a good job there!

The frame job was 1900.00, I did not skimp on any of the materials although I did pare back from my first frame choice since that came out at over 3K.

Is the amount of UV given off by the CFL bulbs actually enough to "damage" artwork protected by standard glass?

could you elaborate? perhaps it's the phrasing, but it sounds like you're saying UV-protective materials don't actually do what they advertise? or do you mean if it's not UV glass? thanks!
