Hi,

If framed right using all archival materials and quality everything does this enhance the re sale value of an art print or hurt it?

I never see many prints on ebay framed.

Thanks
Mike

It's probably possible to frame something for a bit then pull it out, and have it look as if it weren't framed. But:

-- all display of art is bad for art. Even under UV glass and out of direct light and whatever, there will be fading on anything hung.
-- Nobody will ever want that art the way you framed it. And even if they could be talked into it, you're going to have to sell it for way less than the cost of print + framing...and probably be able to "prove" it's not, like, duct-taped to the backing or something.

If you want to frame something, it's best -- by a long shot -- to accept that you're stuck with that art for the long haul, unless you're willing to sell it on the cheap later.

Framed prints sent through the mail are a nightmare.

Agree with Smith. Framed art is harder to sell, and you will not recoup the cost of framing. I can't really agree with deads, however. My experiences shipping framed prints has been uneventful. FedEx has terrific boxes that generally run about $10 and are perfect for protecting framed art.

Thanks for the input.

I was going to take it to a custom frame shop. It wasn't a print I was planning on selling anytime soon or maybe ever. I wanted to have it custom done. Aesthetically appealing. Archival everything. No ideas about re couping the framing costs. Get it featured on 411posters framed art weekend things like that to enhance possible selling in the future (little bit of marketing).

The place I was going through to frame it frames everything for the museum here.

Figured if it looks good, it's backing is done right, so the frame acts as a way to store it. Looks wise it looks great and nothing is cheap etc.

I'd like to be able to remove it from the frame in the future and have it look perfect (if possible) and or sell it framed. And again I just like mentally knowing I can sell it in the future if I wanted to trim down my collection or needed funds.

Do you guys frame things in your collection?

Future profits be damned. If you love that print liberate it from the depths of the flat file and get it on the wall!

Why have it just to keep it in the dark. Framing is a constant source of joy; regrettably, the cost of framing is an agony.
