crazy! it said it was sold out a few days ago. how can you tell how many are available?

The same reason he can tell how many are available is the same reason you thought it was sold out :)
You can try adding 60 to your cart and see how many it will let you do, that should be how many are left.
What happens is people then don't remove the items from their cart and the edition is sold out until their cart is recycled.
