Just wondered what people use for storage and if you do use storage bags for the posters.

2 mil- maybe a 4 mil on a serious poster that will be around for a while
Started using 4 mils but those bags were adding a lot of weight to my current storage method
The main reason I use bags is to ensure no dirt, fingerprints during handling and digging in the stacks so those thick azz 4 mils don't seem necessary.

Same as dis guy!
Use 4mm poly bags from bags unlimited. Tried the 2mm on my first order but felt they were way to flimsy, will never buy them again. Every 10 prints or so I put foam core backing in a bag to prevent waviness and keep the surface flat.
I always try to use 4 mil, but Bags Unltd doesn't have anything thicker than 2 mil for some sizes, so I use 2 mil when I must. For some reason, I think that some sizes come in a 3 mil thickness, too. I like the added protection from my bumblin' fumblin' ways, so I'm not as comfortable with the protection of the 2 mil, but I've never done damage to a poster that's in a 2 mil bag.
Also, I always use acid free backings. I plae a backing in the bag, and it holds 2 prints. Each print is between the backing and one side of the bag.
Something someone said above leads me to a question: Will some posters bleed or leach onto another if you place 2 posters back-to-back in the same bag without an acid-free backing separating them? It's a question I've wondered about from time to time but never asked about before.

I always defer to someone who's wearing a beater, regardless of what else he's wearing.
Right now I have everything In those Krystal Seal bags, but for the good stuff I will soon be upgrading to mylar and boards.

Pretty much just like Rick- 4 mil with acid free backings and prints on each side. Rick, I am curious what size sleeve/print you need/have that they don't have 4 mil for? I would love to save vertical storage space and dollars by not using the acid free backers
in every sleeve, but have also been worried about the problem of the prints potentially leaching.

One size bag I like is the 20.25"x30" bags for 20x29 backings. This is a perfect size for posters like the typical Malleus art as well as many others. This size is only offered in a 2 mil. Another is the 18.24"x26" bag for 18x24 posters... a very common size of poster. These used to be offered in a thicker option but not any more.

I started out using 4mil bags, but after I got over 100 prints I ran out and never bothered with them again. I've since swapped out many of the prints that were originally bagged for my more valuable ones. one thing i don't like is handling a stack of bagged prints. they tend to be slippery and once I nearly had a whole pile of them slide off a table. mostly I just keep similarly sized prints stacked together without anything in between.
right now my collection is kinda out of hand. I have six 18"x24" and two 24"x36" portfolios, 2 archival storage boxes (one is 30"x40") and a flatfile stuffed to the gills.

I need to get me some of them big archival storage boxes for under my bed.electrachrome wrote:I started out using 4mil bags, but after I got over 100 prints I ran out and never bothered with them again. and then I got the big Solander box years later for the oversized stuff.
I think it may have been custom order size. probably around $300.
