Looking for framer in Los Angeles - Hollywood Area

I like framing house design for their price. Not sure about their framing practices though because I use them for posters that wouldn't get a frame otherwise.

I just want to add that I would take really really valuable pieces else where just because I'm not sure who does the actual framing and what his or her qualifications are. The shop does fit the typical Chinatown business model, but like I said 85 bucks framed with acid free and uv glass for a poster that would sit in a flat file anyway can't be beat.

Now, is there anywhere I can pick up cheap standard size frames (18x24 and 24x36) ?

I always use Aaron Bros for standard size frames. They're all over LA, they have a good selection and they're cheap, as long as you use the 40-50% off coupon that's always on the website -- 24x36 should run you between 20 or 30 bucks, maybe less. Michael's (which actually owns Aaron Bros) often carries the same frames for the same coupon prices, and sometimes they carry sizes that Aaron Bros doesn't stock.

Of course, you're going to want to ditch the glass and backing boards, but that's probably true with any ready-made frame. And although I buy frames and supplies from both these stores, I would seriously think twice before getting any custom framing done by either of them...

I'm gonna check them out soon. how much did it cost you to get your framing jobs done? I just spent $180 at Michaels today for a 20" x 24" frame, museum glass, matte, and backing-board and I don't know if thats a good deal or not. I have to assemble the whole thing myself too.

A basic black frame with spacers, uv glass, and acid free backing board for a 24 x 36 print was 85.

Hey all, wanted to revive this thread a bit and see if there were any other recommendations in LA (although I'm on the west side, not Hollywood). I'm looking for a place to handle some of my more prized prints and to go a little beyond your standard black frame.

I took some stuff in to Framing House, but it seemed very basic - great if you want a single mat and black frame, but not much else. I asked about doing some double mats, etc. and their responses didn't inspire confidence. Has anyone tried anything more involved with them?

I also stopped in to Sherman Gallery and asked about doing a 24x36 print with a double mat. With archival glass, I was quoted $385. That's way more than Framing House, but I don't really have any other reference point. Is that just what it costs for this sort of thing, or should I shop around more?
