How come buyers don't have the ability to mark a sale of a print they bought from a member of Expresso Beans? What if the seller is lazy/forgetful and doesn't mark it?

It is a mater of process. The seller lists the item and then after the sale they have the option to record it or not. Also, we really don't have much of a method for preventing duplicates when both people do it.

We had this notion of private sales but we nixed it since there was not enough accountability.

If you buy from another EBer and they don't report the sale, you can always ask or encourage them to do so. And if they don't, report it yourself - you can always write in the notes section that you were the buyer...

Any EB user can report a sale. Just list it on your For Sale or Trade list. Once it is listed, go back and edit it again -- there is an option for "Sold at the price below". Fill in the price you paid but in the case we're talking about, I'd put in the "notes" section at the bottom that you were the buyer at that price. Make a little more sense?
