MAGUIRE: Where did the name KAWS come from?

KAWS: There’s no meaning to it. It’s just letters that I liked—K-A-W-S. I felt like they always work and function nicely with each other.

MAGUIRE: It’s provocative, as in “to be the cause of something.” “To cause.” There was none of that type of thinking when you came up with the name?

KAWS: No, I think I went with that name because I felt like it had no connection. Trust me, editors later had a field day with that. In every article it was like “KAWS and effect” or “KAWS célèbre.”

Wait a second. I am referring to gig poster silkscreens. The artist/printer before numbering sometimes writes KAW. I assume it is like a proof but am not sure.
I appreciate your scholarly answers, but I have already googled. This is a different beast.
I should have mentioned in regards to silkscreening but thought you savvy EB'ers would know it.

I'm pretty sure and you'd have to ask Jorge or maybe even Benny now but I think the KAW version was prints that weren't up to par or were just ones that they picked out and labeled "KAW" to distinguish the difference.

Again I think it's ricv64 or something like that to get a definite answer.

Edit: I'm assuming you mean Sperry posters?

I know. I was just answering his question rather than some off the wall answer.
