  • Is the NOOB tag based on time or posts?
  • When can a noob search posts?
  • When can a noob have avatar?
  • When do a noob's post no longer need to be reviewed?

I'm not a bot either, can I come out and play? :)

That is just what a bot would say. :P

A few more posts and your noob tag will go. The mods approve the first few posts to ensure you are a real person, then you're good to go. Drop a few meaningful comments on art and this process will be sped up significantly.

You can have an avatar as soon as you lose your noob stamp.
Details on this are found a few pages back in this thread. You'll need to resize your image to 80x80 pixels and it must be no more than 25kb in size. Websites are available to help do that for you, and are detailed in my earlier post.

As to the final question, this was recently answered by a mod:
pewter14 wrote:In an effort to eliminate spam from the boards, mods approve the first 2 or 3 posts from every new account.

After your third or fourth post, you'll lose the orange name and be posting uninhibited.

Why do we do this? For every new real user, we discard about 5 fake accounts with 2-3 spam posts each. None of those posts are seen by the community.
Go get posting, dude! You'll shake off the orange noob tag of shame in no time.

Welcome to EB.

is there ANY way to see what new art submissions have been entered by EBers (but not approved my mods)?

many times, my new art submissions are denied because of a "duplicate entry" that was just approved (but hadn't shown up in the DB when i entered it initially).

it would make it much easier to know whether or not to take the time and enter a piece.

Nope. :(

It's a pain in the ass, ain't it?
But you still get EB points, which is nice.....and also pointless.
Actually, that's a tad harsh - it does show that you are contributing to the site, which is a very respectable thing to do. So there's that.

The HUT was a sale thread that used to exist on EB prior to last year's change in the guidelines regarding sales threads and commenting within them.

HUT stands for 'HookUp Thread' - a 'hookup' being the selling of a print at a good price to help members.

The subject of what makes a hookup a hookup is very subjective and was often controversial, which led to a lot of arguments and trouble for mods. The thread also became a dumping ground for the latest failed flips which was not the original remit.

Eventually the thread was locked permanently and would now fall outside the new guidelines on FS threads, so will not be restarted.

Heh, I just discovered the post moderation on "noobs" as well. Fortunately the post I made was approved rather quickly, otherwise it would have made for a very awkward conversation. :?

It's usually pretty quick, within 24hrs or so.

I'm not sure why, but some of the database side of things has been a little back-logged since last weekend - the EB Corrections thread has been particularly slow to be addressed. A correction I submitted 7 days ago is yet to be actioned.

I'm gonna assume that a couple of mods who are particularly active in those areas have been unavailable for one reason or another ( which is fair enough, since they have lives and are volunteers).

I'm pretty sure everything should be back on track soon. Whalaw has been clearing some of the backlog in EB Corrections, and I'm sure new print entries will be handled by someone in due course also. It just may take time to clear the build-up.

Your submission won't have been lost, so don't worry.
