Cabin in the Woods - SPOILER THREAD

Film flames, episode episodes. Post lifetime is 1 year.

I've heard about that review, but haven't read it until now. I've also heard that Rex Reed has quite literally fallen asleep at movies and then reviewed them later. I'd say that's the only explanation for how much stuff he gets wrong (not like opinion-wise, I mean flat out that-was-not-in-the-movie. "Vampires circle the moon and suck the hot stud’s blood"? What?), but then he goes on to spoil pretty much the whole movie. Save for confusing The Ancient Ones with people paying for a video game/snuff film. The two are similar, so I can see how he's confused.

Of course, even he seemed to like the craziness of the post-Purge button finale. Who couldn't?

Also, find me a genre fan who doesn't know who Sigourney Weaver is. I'm serious.

I hate horror movies, aside from scifi horror, and I loved this. It's more of a dark comedy about the horror genre. It really pokes fun at the horror genre while also paying homage. Quite a clever film.

Hahah that Rex Reed review has become a massive joke across the internet.
It isn't even like he is misinterpreting things, which is fine - he presents actual factual inaccuracies. Nothing to do with a video game, viewers don't choose how deaths play out (it does really into detail about how the kids actually have to make the choice), there were no customers of any kind, no vampires killing and no one circles a moon, the virgin isn't required to survive, cameras are in fact noticed... etc. This isn't even being nitpicky - all it shows is that he didn't even watch the movie.

The comment thread for that review is hilarious though.

I just watched this tonight. Holy crap, that was like a love letter to the makers of horror/slasher flicks over the years. Not at all what I was expecting and given the hype I had seen here and from friends, I was expecting to not like it.

I absolutely loved it and will be buying the bluray the day it comes out.

If you are using this review to back up your dislike of the film (which you are absolutely entitled to and I can see why some may not like it), you are hurting your case.

Just saw this tonight, but need to sleep on it before before providing an opinion.

But I'm starting to think I've become too jaded regarding movies.

I love when the good-girl virgin was getting mauled by the big swamp creature thing on the docks, the whole sequence was playing out on the control room screens with all the facility workers partying, drinking champagne tequila, etc  (BEFORE THE RED PHONE RINGS, OF COURSE!)

That wasn't an opinion of a film. That was an old-man rant about the sun and the price of cheese. I read it in the voice of Abe Simpson.

Well it's based on the works of M.C. Escher. It's basically saying that no matter what way you go you will end up back where you started. A topsy turvy if you will. No true understanding of which way is the right way or wrong way. Trapped.

Even the elevator went sideways.

The honeycomb effect is just bad ass. It's not only pleasing to the eyes but it also serves as a effect of the outsider looking in. Just looking at the poster we're reminded of how truly screwed they were.

I like it because its artistic tasteful. It's easily something you can display in any room in your place. You don't have to worry about parents coming for a visit and pitching a fit over your disgusting taste in wall art. It's a conversation starter if anything though a convo to avoid if they haven't seen the flick just yet. I think just by looking at the image though it will intrigue their interest to see it. Perfect execution in other words.

Also it was pre-release and Mondo wanted to make sure there were no spoilers, while also giving us little hints. I think it is a great representation of the movie without going an obvious route.

I think it's one of the best horror poster Mondo has done, very wall worthy, in fact I have it up at work and I'm looking at it right now. :D
