A Confederacy of Dunces - who would you cast?

Efforts have been made and failed to make A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole into a movie. Who would you cast as Ignatius Reilly? John Goodman is now too old for the part, maybe Johan Hill if he put some more weight back on and could do some character acting?

You're a troll. You're not making any contribution to the thread, you're a troll. We're guessing who trolls are. You know most users who only make jokes without trying to help are trolls? - Well I'm going home alright? EB's playing with its new guys.

I think he and Chris Farley are off the table for this :( Another interesting question, who would you have direct? Wes Anderson? The Coen Brothers? Both great choices. Tim Burton would have an interesting take on it but not sure would capture the nuances.

Nick Offerman played Ignatius in a theatrical version.

Everyone who they have previously casted to play him in a film has tied an untimely death.

He would have been perfect for that.

Maybe Joaquin Phoenix if he'd agree to put on a bunch of weight.

Melissa McCarthy. Wrong gender, but boy would she kill it. John C Reilly, Paul Giamatti, maybe Danny McBride could do it, but they're a little bit old for the part. Bobby Monyihan perhaps, but he may be too likeable.

Mel Rodriguez from Better Call Saul & Last Man on Earth would be my pick.
