BR2049 is my pick, but I am biased as I was raised on that film/genre. "Get Out" was remarkable as well.

Watched Darkest Hour last night (is that a 17 film or an 18 film?) and, much to my surprise, I really enjoyed the darn thing. I found Oldman eminently watchable. Sure, the technical flourishes were a bit much - Joe Wright does absolutely adore close ups of type writers typing - but overall a very, very solid film.

My preferred winner for Best Actor was Timothee Chalamet, and for a little while I thought that this was simply just Gary Oldman hamming it up, but there's a genuine character there, and a genuine feel that he's portraying someone who lived, rather than the idea of someone. It's quite powerful stuff at times.

he's good in the flick. but its too understated of a performance to win an award.

if you replace the word 'best' with 'most' at alot of award shows the winners start to make more sense.

LadyBird- pretty good, slightly better than average coming of age flick with a couple of solid performances. Didn't blow me away but was enjoyable.

The score, production design, and Sally Hawkins make the film. Three Billboards is another one that I feel is overrated. Well-acted and directed but it gets away from itself in the end and doesn't quite come together for me.

Agreed on both films. I've mentioned Shape of Water before, but just saw Three Billboards this weekend.
It was okay, certainly not top 5 of the year for me. FM was GREAT, without her the movie would have not held up at all. She really kept it all together for me. But the more I reflect on the movie, the less I like it.

my 02c...at least Mother! didnt get any. Also think Sally Hawkins should have been nominated for Maudie and not Shape of Water. And Octavia Spencer is very talented but her role in Shape of Water was as cookie cutter as it gets.
