I guess you guys still don't understand how galleries operate.

Absolutely everywhere that sells anything remotely rare (or not) the workers will pick and put stuff aside . It's a common law of the jungle .

no doubt..thats a given..but just give folks who've been in line all day waiting a heads up as to which prints/OG's are already spoken for BEFORE they go into the gallery, not at the last second

Would he have left the line had he known all three were accounted for? What would his reaction have been had they told him an hour/two/four before they opened the doors?

Not saying what the gallery did was right but people are making a mountain out of a molehill.

If the only piece the gallery bought in before hand was a SINGLE piece then I'd say that's pretty remarkable to be honest.

Anyone that ever expects to walk into a gallery when the doors unlock and not see a few red dots is making a mistake. Being first inside doesn't mean everything's available.

Short of Sean coming out and promising him a Keyes and shaking his hand and swearing he could get one I don't see how dude got wronged. And it's not like there weren't a few hundred other amazing (and vastly underpriced) pieces from artists every bit as awesome as Josh.

The best course of action for willnyc555 and everyone else who don't like the way the gallery did business is to walk the walk, or in this case not walk the walk, and not wait in line and spend your hard earned money or time at next year's Tiny Trifecta. Don't give them your business or support. Make 2013 a Cotton Candy free year.

It is to bad this thread has become about this isolated (but crappy event) when it could have been about some of the new discoveries and things you might not have purchased otherwise. So lets hear it from folks that purchased or saw the pics and discovered something new. I will start:

AIKO: I never expected to walk in an buy an AIKO, but am realy happy i did. Im a big FAILE fan and it flew under my radar at first that she had pieces in the show. So I consider it a cool discovery. I also realy dig her new mural and did not know it was going up, so it is like the stars just aligned.

ESAO: The part i always liked best about Esao's work was the color, but discovered that his black and white inks are rad too (no idea how many actualy exists)

I will say one more thing on the controversy, but afte rthat i am done with it. I hope the gallery is transparnet bout which pieces are presold if they do the show again next year, that would help alot. It is wierd that the piece they held back was also a piece they chose to post in the show priviews on the website to advertise the show. That feels a bit bait and switchie. Im going to the JLG Geddes show and i know the street will be there, but i also know that the show is not advertised as first come first served and it will long since have been bought and paid for. I was at the JLG Keyes show where stampede was used in the advertising, but it was also clearly labeled as not for sale. This just felt differnt than both of those.

Leftovers are up now (at least most of them...they didn't all go live at once). At least I was able to get a Lana Crooks piece I wanted.

She's one of the owners of Ohnodoom gallery in Chicago. Mostly does plush stuff, although occasionally vinyl customs too. Discovered her accidently about a year ago when she was selling some stuff on ebay as a fundraiser and picked up a large piece (at least compared to the trifecta ones) for pretty damn cheap. Even less than $100 if I remember correctly.
