This month’s featured artist is acclaimed New York artist David Welker.

David Welker is a contemporary visual and musical artist known for his elaborate Rock posters, murals, and paintings ranging from abstract fantasy scape’s to hard edged realism. His work over the last two decades has built up a devout following including private collectors, celebrities, and particularly indie and pop rock musical acts. His fine art includes original paintings, hand rendered prints, and illustration often leaning towards the surreal, pictorial and the urban landscape. His career has followed a path of experimentation and genre jumping taking him from the top of the landscape mural scene to the top of the gig poster scene in just a few short years. Welker is now beginning to set his sights on the gallery world as he sets out to combine all of his varied influences and inspirations into a unified contemporary visual force for the 21st century.

We'll have David's work from the show available online after the opening here http://thegoodfoot.com/gallery/exhibit/79/

"OUTSIDE THE BOX (II)"
30 + Artists create 3-D work that extends past the frame

In 2010, Jason and Chris were at Jason’s frame shop (PoBoy Art and Framing) when they decided to run art shows together. One of the first “concept” shows they formed was Outside The Box. Drawing from the familiar term, they wanted to challenge artists to work in a 3-Dimensional style with their paintings and/or constructions, working within a frame, but being able to “expand” past that frame. As much as art is defined by its framework, both in physical frame and within genres, we wanted to expand the idea of genre and have the artists think Outside The Box. Each artist has completed (6) works for this show (1 larger, 16”x20”, and 5 smaller, 8”x8”). This anniversary show is a tribute both to the artists that work in 3-D forms, but also to those that challenge themselves to work further. Painters that make 3-D versions of their work, to clay potters that work on vertical sculpture – this show includes Portland artists in every genre of art.

Peoples Art of Portland Gallery has been active since November 2010. It is a project of gallery spaces gifted to the curators from GGP, the management company for Pioneer Place Mall. Since its inception, the galleries have been well traveled, showing 1000’s of Portland artists in a very unique and professional setting. Annual shows include “The Love of Portland”, “The Big 200” and resident international poster artist, EMEK.
We love the mall and its accessibility to anyone the open market place allows. Art doesn’t have to be hard to see, or backed by white walls, it can be simple in its beauty and cultural appeal – its as easy as walking into a mall.

Welkers Mastodon is one of the most underrated posters on EB.
