nothing against Chuck and his poster.........and maybe I'm crazy, but I'd prefer that sxsw only use current flatstock artists to make the official sxsw posters.

SXSW is way bigger than flatstock. Now, i would agree that the flatstock poster should be done by an attending artist, which it was (Erica).

it's frankly insulting to the artists that bother to attend flatstock.

I'm waiting for the textless version on mahogany.

edit: but I'm cool with Chuck getting the SXSW gigpee and don't see why it'd be insulting. Do the artists feel this way?

How? Flatstock is an event that happens during SXSW. It's in no way in a position to dictate such terms. SXSW is a big umbrella of multiple events. Flatstock just happens to be one of those events. So as I said, it makes sense for Flatstock to say their poster should be done by an attending artist. Flatstock/API has no say in what SXSW does for its set of posters (Main, Interactive, Comedy, Film...)

I would argue that it is not in the original spirit of sxsw........sxsw is full of chitty bands, it's not about the big boys.

Does SXSW even know who is attending flatstock when they make the call for the poster(s)?

by the looks of the past artists they've chosen to make posters, it appears sxsw doesn't give a fudge.

although it's obviously not a money grab as they would of sold them for more than $40/each and they would have made more than 300. But, my point is they could essentially hire any artist if they intend to sell only 300 posters (well actually it's only 200 posters, as chuck kept 100 for his sales).
