Grzegorz Domaradzki - Bitchin' Movie Posters
I'm cool with people calling out "stolen" imagery. It's a pox, not just on the artists but on the art (in the) pool generally. I mean... sure you can say all day that "everyone knows this isn't original" or "if you don't like it don't buy", but a) they likely don't know and b) it glosses over a multitude of pretty egregious sins. Not to mention it encourages more of the same, which dilutes the pool of legit work overall...which is bad for everyone. EVERYONE!
just a foil for me today, thanks

But isn't all art a type of imitation? Is anything ever completely original?

Did the Moon screen print get this kind of criticism?
Sure dude. Thats exactly what you are doing.allmypurchases wrote:I frankly couldn't care less about whether it's licensed or not. And, like I said earlier, I like Gabz. I'm just pointing out what appear to be some of Gabz's source materials and discussing his use of them. You know, I'm just discussing Gabz's art in an art discussion section of the forum on a discussion board about Gabz's art. If you don't like that, feel free to move along as well.
Go ahead do your thing.
Fight the good fight and make sure people are "getting paid" or whatever it is you keep espousing.

I mentioned it on FB but I think it's worth mentioning here. People forget about the approval process. Images are preapproved and those famous ones are cleared for use. If an artist wants to draw a character in an entirely new light there may be additional fees and a long approval process involving talent that isn't guaranteed to work. Just something to keep in mind.
At least from a compositional standpoint and coloring aspect the image is pretty awesome.

I always thought Struzan was a painter. It is possible I am misinformed.

I just think it's funny that when you do a google image search, the first things that come up are the images Gabz uses. Same thing happened with his Mulolland Drive poster. I guess it could be the case that there are only certain images cleared to use, but I've never encountered this with other artists so prominently...
