Guess I never really thought about it or just assumed the artist would be paid by the band for the commissioned band posters. Is this typical practice that this douche Chris is implying? I'm sure for some bands it is, but drymount that's a tough gig for an artist I'd say. What's a typical transaction for band & artist?
pay via paypal, use credit card, file dispute at the 20 day mark if suspicious. don't deal with noobs. don't trade with noobs. request feedback ahead of time. there are lots of good people 'round here.

Seems par for the course, no? Don't your boys phish do pretty much the same thing?

That's the system and it's always been that way. These new-age hipster artists don't remember when you actually had to be sponsored by someone to make posters. The internet changed that and now artists don't want to embrace it. It's crazy.

and I don't Chris from Adam.........but I imagine he's heard that bullchit 100's of times

I imagine if a single variant copy was posted on eBay auction style that at the end of the 7 days one would have a high bidder and nine runner ups to sell ten posters to at fair market value. Chris should look into that instead of trying to pay artists in exposure and unloading his work onto them

She could make more selling the hundred herself but the part that would eek me is that you do the work and then get paid 6 months later.

so like you know......most of those average artist people who paint/make/sculpt something and then go to some crappy folk fest farmers market to sell it.

how long does it take them to actually sell the item after they make the art/object?

It's she really making more though? The cost of tubes, postage, warehousing, packing, dealing with customer service... Those aren't insignificant. Also sounds like she would have to pay to have the prints shipped to her and I believe she's in new Zealand and would have to pay import fees on top of international freight. Sounds like a lot more work on top of the work an artist already does to produce the product they're supposedly getting "paid" for.

If you are an established artist with a web store and shipping operation already in place this sounds like a no brainer. But not every artist has that kind of apparatus in place. Ironically enough TSURT already does.

this is the industry standard. pj, phish, tool, metallica, i know this is how they do it. i am sure there are others as well.
i dont agree with it, but a standard is a standard...

Totes however selling cheeky miniatures at a craft fair and doing gig poster for PJ is sorta apple and oranges.

My friends who are artist and do a lot of corporate or freelance work usually get 50% of their fee up front and 50% at completion.

But in both cases guess who sets the price. The artist not the customer

Napa.
Holy crap.
Eh. In my backyard, but giant festival and greatest hits setlist. pass. Gonna hit up Sacto instead.
Admit it.
It felt yucky to actually type Sacramento as a preference to Napa.

From my experience they don’t play greatest hit shows or change much because it’s a festival?
Lately the shows all have the same bones.
I think if they deem the venue special, they may throw in a rarity or two, ( Telluride )
but it’s a standard show?
I loath large festivals, almost as much as Sacramento and Stockton, but there’s the additional chance of a guest or two with so many musicians in tow.
Is Sac happening? Haven’t been keeping up.
Short drive from Napa…
But I’d definitely choose Sat Night in Napa Valley over Sunday Night in an NBA Arena in BallSack.
** Never been to Bottlerock, but on paper it looks like one of the better and more intimate festivals.
Temping. As a pair even more so.
