This is an interesting aspect of variants that I often think about - shouldn't the artist sort of strive to make the larger or 'regular' edition just as appealing (or more) than the smaller run? I'm with you in that I often think that the variants somehow are more appealing, but it's sort of strange logic. I think the 'limited' aspect of variants is often appealing for me and it's hard to decouple that from what I like visually. It would be interesting to see a bunch of sets of prints where you didn't know which was the smaller run 'variant' and see which you like better objectively...RiotAct wrote:huh, I actually think the reg looks better based on the jpgs
Anyway, thanks to the poster that put up the pic of the variant - I always love seeing those and they disappear from Todd's site quite quickly.

Even the regular edition is somewhat small 125 instead of 200.

If you're basing your purchase decision primarily on whether you like a poster or print, then it seems to me that you wouldn't care about whether an item is a regular edition or variant. I've passed on variants many times because I liked the regular editions better. Now, if budget comes into play and the regular edition is affordable whereas the variant is not (e.g., lots of Emek posters), then one might get into a situation where you like the variant more but can't afford it. In this case, the decision should probably be to pass altogether on the poster. But then the addiction factor comes into playby Craig_of_J on Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:06 pm

I always defer to someone who's wearing a beater, regardless of what else he's wearing.

The variants were $75 each. Edition of 20 (each)...but he only had 10 of each available for purchase. I am the proud owner of one such set. Score!phubar2 wrote:fudge. I always miss his variants.

So the only difference with the variants was the red lettering and border?
I can deal with the regs if that's the case.
