Bringing it back around to the art (I saw Joe say we're turning this into a Phish thread ;) ), yeah I think that's what's interesting to me as well. Learning about Welker's deep connection with the band, and how they're intertwined. That's pretty cool.
The narratives behind the stuff always add an extra dimension for me. I'm not a Phishhead but the art for Maze is mesmerizing to me.

And no worries, I can always hope that in turn the Phish thread turns into something else. Like a Grateful Dead thread.

If not for Phish and their fans, would we even have this Welker thread to begin with? I'd hope his talent would have naturally jumpstarted his career, independent of his ties to the band, but I still think that's a legitimate question one can ask.

I am 27 and I like Sample In A Jar. What era of Phish made that song?

I thought about mentioning that as well but figured I'd keep it simple, lol

They debuted it in 1993, but the thing about Sample is they don't really jam it ever (except for 1 time last summer but that was a special occasion), so it isn't a song that is particularly indicative of the era it was made. That said, 93 Phish has a lot of great "type 2" jamming and "machine gun" Trey, which means an absolute shredfest with Trey flying at 1,000 mph. Summer 93 is a legendary Phish era so that is a worthy starting point.

1993 is the year you understand how unbelievably gifted Trey is as a guitarist. I can't even think fast enough to follow his playing at certain snapshots.

When it's all said and done, those who never saw Phish once will have missed IT. 20+ years and you've been a part of plenty of great parties
