Wow! I was excited about Dragonslayer and thought I'd missed out, but was able to score it after the tweet. This morning's drop was nice... oh, and I 3D! Did anyone catch the 3D rerelease of The Nightmare Before Christmas? Probably the best 3D I've seen. It added a lot to the movie imho.

i must admit i've never seen an animated 3D movie and the thought of TNBC in 3D is actually a bit interesting.

i could see that being the case with UP. although i think the stylistic animation used in Nightmare would really lend itself to 3D.

The Dragonslayer poster looks like a generic dragon poster that you can buy in the poster rack at Wal-mart or Spencers.

Not even close. This thing is beautiful in person. The colors are beautifully dark and rich.

That and it's unique to Dragonslayer. If you're into the film, you recognize the creature as Vermithrax and not some generic dragon. If you're not into the film then it's like listening to a Coltrane record and a Sonny Rollins record and saying they're both just some generic saxophone stuff.

JC goes into some detail about creating the poster on the Mondo blog that that's worth checking out even if you haven't seen the movie (if anything just to understand how pioneering it was in the field of special effects):
