The value of test/mono prints...

I've been on a test/mono print collecting spree lately and know they are all unique in their own way. Something I've been wondering, as a collector of course, is what may be the general value of test prints? Would it depend on the artist(s) who are printed on a piece or would people judge it based on it's layered designs? Any opinions?

test prints, overprints are a very eclectic area of poster art/collecting. u can find buyers but the market is totally different from 1st ed. prints. much less liquid.

There are already threads on this but...
Some people love them. Unique, colorful, close to the artist.
Some people hate them. Ugly, chaotic, something that should have been thrown out.
Some don't even care.
Personally, I think most are pretty silly, but the rare few are amazing. It's all about, to me, whether the thing is still visually appealing. Having a few layers from other neat prints doesn't make, in my opinion, something cool in tis on right.

But yeah, it's all opinion I suppose on what's appealing in the image.

I'm a big fan of test prints / make ready prints...one of these days I hope to get one from Hatch. Right now, they take the test prints, chop 'em up into postcards and sell them. Can't blame them, it's a business afterall.
Also, monoprints are cool. I'm saving up for one of Jim Sherraden's monoprints.

I used to love that section in Mad Magazine about smart answers to stuipid questions. Ironically, I can't think of one right now.Stroma wrote:Are you giving them away?MattTheCraw wrote:I just don't get the test print thing - must be me.
