So why do folks cover the edition number when selling?

General art-related discussion.

I thought you were going to say it was because of the number (your address)! Yeah, that sucks. Shouldn't have anything to do with whether buyer wants the house or not.

I've gone both ways with listings. Been explicit about number, not specified number. Never have denied anyone the info if asked- no reason to. Again, the way I see it, what if some microscope-weilding poster geek lists every little possible flaw on number 23 of some print, and then later number 23 is resold listed simply as mint, maybe with a higher asking price..? Or if you see that number 23 has been sold and resold every few weeks, you might assume that something is wrong with it, but maybe it really is perfect mint... does number tracking affect these sales?
just rambling, throwing out thoughts on the subject.

hey both are print #82, how cool is that??
Ok, that is pretty cool, but you don't need to track number 82 specifically to see that the print's value has increased 10-15x. It is fascinating though. I just usually choose to omit the print number when reporting a sale. What's the count on those who prefer the number is reported? Anybody>?

I almost bought a house last year that had been on the market for about 12months; came up with a fair, yet low offer. Her son got involved, told her the house was worth more than we we're willing to pay. The woman was looking to double her investment in the four years she had lived there. We moved on, found a house in a neighborhood we preferred for a lot less $$$, then the market crashed. Don't know if she ever sold, but I got the feeling she wasn't really looking to move.
But what stuck in my head was that she wouldn't budge at all on her asking price and although we could have shelled out the cash, i felt like she was uncooperative and trying to make too much money.

now that i own a home i can see where she was coming from.
