Were at it again. This time with hugely influential artist James Victore. James has made tons of campaigns that you guys are familiar with you just may not have realized he did them. He's a giant in the design world and very soon will have his work in the permanent collection of MOMA.
Go look at his work here you will not be disappointed:

Here's a few pics. We are up to 13 layers now and have about 5 more to go. It's been a hectic couple of weeks with moving our studio, gettign ready for Flatstock and making this print so bear with me while I finish putting the files together.
This first layer is super day glo orange. I'll have an actual photo later.

This type was made with duct tape then xeroxed a few different ways. we have used a layer of white, three layers of silver and a layer of varnish to build it. One more detail layer to come on the tape then a couple more including one where Jame's son, Luka, added some images.
<3 these threads!!!
not sure what you meant by xerox the duct tape different ways, but it sure came out realistic-looking...is that the same woman that was in Baseman's print?

The duct tape looks awesome.
Is there a story behind the image? I feel like he may be making a reference to something I should know but dont.

Geoff, what kind of paper are you using for the print?

Not the same girl as Baseman. Using the same 100% cotton paper. It's close to 180 lb cover weight. Just rated as 290 GSM. (I think)
The print looks way better than these mock ups. The "tape" is nice and silver and shimmery and the orange is DAY GLO. super bright.
I'll get some pics up of the actual print soon. Glad you guys like these process threads.

Yep that's it. He says Graphic Design should be wielded like a club. James is a smart, smart dude. If you aren't familiar with his work check it out on his site. I bet there's more there you recognize than you might realize.dougr wrote:stereoface wrote:Is there a story behind the image? Okee dudes. 17 layers and it's done. We popped 5 screens getting this done. Awesome.
The duct tape ended up with 5 layers of silver and varnish. James' son Luca added the walking hot dog.
The plan is to include a cool little card from James with the first few orders and it looks like we will also include a 2 or 3 colour print we are also doing with James with all the orders.
There will also be a super super limited edition with a gold layer with extra Luca doodles. Not sure if they will be released though. The 17 layer version is the official Print Series edition.
here are the last four layers:
