Basquiat Sells for $110.5 Million at Auction
taking a wild shot and saying you aren't a Jackson Pollock or Haring fan either?63schoeffling wrote:Again, I clearly understand the talent of people like Banksy, Horkey, Warhol, Moss, etc.... (obviously not lumping them together but you get my point in terms of EB). Their talent is obvious and I can understand how tons of people love their work. This.... idk how anyone can hang this or try and explain it, that's all. I'm open to interpretation or if someone wants to explain their reasoning. In all seriousness, I like to be informed so I'm genuinely curious.
I think seeing pieces from artists like Basquiat in person bring on a whole different appreciation for it.

^ That is kind of what I was asking. So is detail his thing? I genuinely just have no clue.
Pollack and Haring I think are both way out ahead of this guy. But that's just my opinion.... I understand the method to their madness. I had no idea he is as big as he is, would have never guessed it just from looking at the work.
Moving on though...

Collection digs are the bestmistersmith wrote: Your collection is full of Phish, Dave Matthews, and movie posters. Maybe you're not the in-house expert on priceless neo-expressionism.

I mean I would think you would appreciate something more seeing it in person. Nothing like seeing a massive Pollock in person.63schoeffling wrote:^ That is kind of what I was asking. So is detail his thing? I genuinely just have no clue.

And even though I wouldn't say its a dig but like the other guy mentioned you obviously have a specific taste and its very possible you don't like it or have to like it. Out of your list of names, Warhol does absolutely nothing for me. I get his significance and would never put that down but I would rather own a Basquiat over a Warhol any day of the week. Just personal preference

Take a dose then look at the painting again. You'll "get it"

So the guy talking fudge about a Basquiat has absolutely no idea who Basquiat was? Holy fudge.

Ha, I thought I made it clear from the start. I've seen some of his work (only online) and I just don't understand it. I personally think this looks ugly as fudge, that's all. If that ruffles feathers then idk what to say. If I hung this up I would think most people that walk into my house would feel the same. I'm not judging or thinking less of anyone that likes it.... but that's where I stand personally.
Move along.
