Totally agree. While the work is beautiful, how can it not be seen as a blatant attempt to replicate Retna's style. I realize that Retna does not have the copyright on calligraphy based work, but come on.toobs wrote:holy retna batman

I somewhat agree - in this mural specifically you can see a lot of accents that resemble Retna's work. But as a person who has been following Pokras for a while (and even dabble with calligraphy myself) it is definitely hard to break into calligraffiti without having strong similarities one way or another. I mean if Pokras went a little more traditional with this mural, people will say he is replicating Niels SHOE Muelman's work. Unless one ventures into another language/script, it really is hard to be unique in the whole scene.greekboy wrote:Totally agree. If you look into more of Pokras' recent works, you'll see how he's finally established his own style. But again, I wouldn't be surprised if one out of ten works he produces will have a striking resemblance to another artist's work.
