The lesson to be learned is twofold: (1) always use thick tubes and (2) always insure for fair market value rather than the original cost.

Proper poster trading etiquette calls for a letterbomb. Don't include a return address and use gloves whilst packing.

The original sender has to file the claim? If you both agreed to shipping them insured for their original value, your trade partner is only obligated to return the money when he cashes in on that claim.

Actually, you probably won't need to use gloves or worry about fingerprints, seeing as the dude and the letter both will be exploded.

Sender or receiver can file the claim but if you end up with a damaged poster you have to have the original insurance form mailed to you as part of your claim. If you are claiming the full amount of the insurance you have to provided proof of value, (I've used an EB price history printout), and the PO KEEPS the poster!
Always insure/have insured a poster for what you could buy it on eBay for.
Has anyone every been to the PO auction for insurance claim items? There's one every month in Atlanta.

Here is how it works here in Canada: I've had to file a claim for damaged items twice and both times it was for a fairly inexpensive print (under $100). Here, only the sender can file a claim. All I had to do was fill-in an on-line form and Canada Post cut me a cheque for the full insured amount plus the shipping cost no questions asked. I didn't have to return the item or show it to anyone...
