I filed this one under “hot mess” when I saw it. Pretty inauspicious first release now that she fired COA.

Some of the details on her busts were a "hot mess".
This, however, is a quite beautiful etching/photopolymer print which required craft in the making, much more so than her usual giclees. It appears it has rendered the original sketch very accurately. I see no mess in there.

3 years since last post..the new collab with Whatson is only her picking a face. A face we dont even get to see, not even the eyes. It would have been nice if she superimposed his artwork like she does comics to the subjects skin.

I like the new collab with Martin Whatson but not the new prices. $1.2k for one of the pieces of the main edition and $3k for the hand-finished versions seems pretty steep.

It's hard not to share the sentiment that these are aggressively priced, but on the other hand, they will be impossible to get. You can enter the lottery all you want, your chances to be picked are minimal. There's no doubt there will be infinitely more people willing to buy these at that price than the number of copies, so seen that way, pricing makes more sense I guess.

P.S. MBW prints at today's prices can easily be obtained if you're on time. They don't move that quickly anymore. I don't think he has much room to charge more nowadays, otherwise his stuff would plain sit on his website.. (until he takes them off, which he might be already doing..). If this Chevrier x Whatson collab was a tradionnal release, guaranteed they'd be gone before most could even see the ''add to cart'' button. Apples and oranges.

Very true, I once contacted Station 16 a couple of years ago when they did a lottery for a Chevrier print that had an edition size of 50 and they said that more than 2,000 people sent applications. That puts the odds at about 2.5% using those old numbers and I doubt much has changed since then.

Add the Whatson fanbase to that number for this one.. it won't be pretty.
On another note, I've just hung this beauty earlier this week and I'm totally in love with it. Never hung anything that big. Size does matter.

the new price point has def slowed down the few second sellouts.

narrator's voice: they didn't

2 min to sellout ... anyone who wanted one could have bought either edition. price point and image hurt this release. GP even cutting corners now with giclee base to reduce # of screens.
