Haha, okay I worded my first post poorly and may have given the impression that flipping is what I’m concerned about. I’ve actually never flipped any of my prints. My main point was that I love the art variant version but it is steeep. To the extent that the secondary market may (or may not) have a hard time maintaining that value, because the art variants seem to be less desirable to collectors overall. And that’s not a reflection on the quality of the print. I personally love the art-only variants.
The price for the art print was exactly the same price point as all his other releases. and in some cases its slightly cheaper than a few of the art print versions.
Okay, you convinced me. Bought it. But I’m not gonna like it! ;)

It's more so that it's still the iconic classic image from merchandising. John Alvin didn't have a lot to go off back then apparently.

"We're always dependant on photographic reference in terms of rendering the face or pose of a movie star. I mean how else would we do it? These people don't pose for anyone. There is no such thing anymore. So I had, frankly, a lousy picture of Harrison Ford when I worked on the first one. I did my best and it came up okay. But I was always concerned about it. I always wanted to see it a little differently. And in doing the new one, I had collected and found some excellent pictures of Harrison Ford from that era. And I was able to be more specific about the nature of his stare and the little bits of stubble on his chin. You know, that wonderful, characteristic nose that he has, everything like that. So I was just able to upgrade it and light it a little differently."

Personally I don't like the revised composition. The 82 poster remains burned in my brain as the definitive composition.

You either die a poster art hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become your own fan-art parody.

'82 original, please, Joe.

Fixed. I always see Gibson when I look at that poster. Maybe one of those #can’tunsee things.
