Just wondering if anyone has framed at the store, Michaels' Arts & Crafts, yet? I know they now have their own framers at some stores and was wondering how their work is, pricing, etc

thanks for any info!

Just dropped off a couple Banksy's with them yesterday. Will advise how they turn out.

There are several threads that deal with Michaels. The general feeling, backed by many examples/stories, is a lack of quality/professionalism/knowledge/etc that comes as a result of their employees in the framing department knowing little or nothing about matting/framing/design.

I always defer to someone who's wearing a beater, regardless of what else he's wearing.

I've never had any issues with Michaels and their framing. Unfortunately I'm pretty limited in my options where I live, so it's usually where I end up getting my stuff done. (Although I am in the process of trying to do some digging on a few local small business options.) They're pretty basic, but if you don't want anything super fancy I personally don't find them to be a problem.

I've heard of several instances where people thought Michaels did a great job, only to eventually open up their frame and see that the print was drymounted or other non-archival material was used.
Pretty much exactly what Rick said, too.

I fear for your Banksys :(

This happened to one of my Stouts. I have since had all my Michaels frames redone but a real framer.

Just to add, this may very well be the case. I can't really speak to this. Once I get something framed and up it's probably never coming down or out of the frame at least again. So what I don't know can't hurt me? :P

It depends on the Michael's employee. I have the best framer in the world (except for peacedog), and she happens to frame for Michael's. She's amazing, her taste is impeccable, and she has saved me literally thousands of dollars on masterpiece glass, archival materials and labor. I wont go anywhere else.

Go ahead: hate on Michael's, pick my post apart. If you knew what I had in a framer, you'd be jealous.

And peacedog is still the tops everywhere outside the New Orleans area....

There's always an exeption, tourist, and you may have found a gem. I'm always happy to hear when someone finds a framer they can trust and count on, regardless of who they work for. The odds are just far smaller finding a competent framer at Michaels than at a non-chain art/frame shop... but even then, you're merely improving your odds (dramatically in some cases, but there are good and mediocre and bad in every profession).
