Quick OG framing question

My wife picked up an oil on masonite from everydayoriginal recently and was questioning whether she needed to use spacers or anything when framing. I don't think we need spacers since we won't be using glass but I honestly don't know if there is any concern with the small edge where the painting would be resting directly against the frame. As far as I can tell none of my other framed paintings have anything but figured it would be safer to ask first than find out later I was wrong.

There is a product that I believe lineco has that is very thin (rubber like) that is used for this scenario.
