REMOVING CREASES OUT OF POSTERS?

The spoon-smoothing technique might work on this. Wait until someone w/more experience can confirm.

I need to put together a how-to thread on using an iron to get creases out. Works very well.

Put poster face-down on Mat board. Set iron to high, no steam. Place piece of kraft paper over the crease. Iron out.

Any recommendation on folded movie posters?

I picked up a small group of vintage movie posters tonight and was wondering if it's worth trying to smooth out the creases or leave them as is.

I was planning on floating this as it has four deckaled edges. Can these creases be steamed out.? I just got it in the mail yesterday and the seller says, just steam it.

Ironing works really well with that type of cotton rag paper, those creases should come out easily.

I would try spooning it first before you go and throw heat on a print.. its not a big area so it should come out easy.

Was the damage indicated before you received it? If not, thats a whack response from the seller.

No, I thought it was from packaging as the craft paper barely covered the print, in fact when I uncapped it, you could see the print extending beyond the craft paper, and this is what I got. I don't really want to do anything myself, I am in the process of calling framers.

I feel ya PLUSH. I had a $200 print arrive from a gallery like that, heavy cotton stock with banged up deckled edges. Luckily I was able to return it and the artist is sending me another copy.

I was told by the artist that I could try ironing it but felt more comfortable getting another in the mail. If this one comes banged up I'll be ironing it out.

Well, I have been in talks with two framers listed here in the DFW area and sent these pics. I am waiting for them to let me know if it can be corrected. But was told if the fibers are damaged, ironing, or steaming it will not make it whole again. I would like it as I am in about $500 on this.

I'd do it no steam and med heat on the backside of the paper.

I'm no art conservator, but:

-- Steam is water. Water is scary. No steam.
-- If the edges are deckled and there's enough dead space around the image...re-deckle them. Cut an inch off. Nobody would ever know and the print would look fine.

seriously?!?!? to a $500 print. personally, i wouldnt do it.

i would take it to the framer you are going with, and have them flatten it. that way, if they damage it, its not your fault.
