How much was shipping for you? Cheapest I could get it down to was $93 for 3-5 day shipping to Austin, TX. Still pretty cheap for a new flat-file.

ya 93 here too. I've been using my roommates flat file for over a year now and I'm moving out next month so I needed something pretty quick. I've been looking for months on Craigslist and there's been nothing in the area.

By the time you find a beat up one on Craigslist, take the time to refinish it, plus the cost of materials etc, this is a really good deal! (Even with shipping)

Note that the file you guys are talking about is smaller than the "good" ones:

Inside drawer measures 37-5/16" width by 1-7/8" height by 25-7/16" depth.

So if you have any paper bigger than 36 on the long side, you're going to have problems.

I have a Safco with similar interior dimensions. It works great for most Mondo stuff. The only problem I've run into was Horkey's Jurassic Park. Still, good to give people a warning.

Definitely caught that. I don't have anything larger than 24 X 36 at the moment. If I do wind up getting something that big, I'll worry about it when the time comes (an excuse to go straight to the framers perhaps).

Same here. JP sits on top of the file, because the outer dimensions are large enough to accommodate it, just not the inner dimensions.

The dimensions of the file on Amazon are probably the main reason I didn't pick one up. I need a bigger file, not a second one that doesn't let me store the prints I have that are larger than 24x36.

+1. If I had known how much work/money it would be to refurb a flat file, I would have spend the extra $$$ and bought new. I guess I now know what I DON'T want to do for a living...

What kind of junk flat files are you guys buying that needs to actually be refurbished?!?! I picked one of the large ones up for my quad (30x40) posters for $100 on craigslist and all I have to do was wipe it down and it was good to go.

Refurbish and refinish are two very different words being thrown around like synonyms.

I guess I should have factored in my OCD when I got one off Craig's List. :)

Ok .. I could maybe see some refinishing .. But it is just a large metal cabinet .. some sanding and paint .. other than time and effort I dont see that being a large expense.

I could buy this one for $100 but, as always, I just have no where to put it.

Image

You can see the top and one side are a different type of wood, and the drawers just slide in and out (not on rollers), but the wood is pretty cool. It's huge (54w x 40h x 32d) and I really like the variation in drawer sizes/depths.

Anyone in the Twin Cities looking?
