Looking around misc framing and conservation sites I found this:

Does anyone think this would work and be a good solution to large format print storage? I have a 24 x 36 picturesque but I don't like getting prints into the sleeves.

Those look decent. I would look for a used flat file on craigslist. You should be able to score a nice one for $100-200 pretty easy if you keep an eye out for one.

My big thing is the size and weight of a traditional flat file more than the price. I'll be moving in the next few months and then again a few years after. So, I'm looking for something light weight, easy to move, and archival safe for so ring my prints.

Wait til you move in a couple of months and then buy a 2nd hand flat file, Flat files are by far the safest, easiest way to store your beloved prints and cross the road of your next move in a few years when the time arrives, alot can happen in such a big time window,, me i just worry about 2day as the next part may never come.... :ziggi:

By the way, they seem like they'd be very heavy but if you take the drawers out they aren't too bad to move.

YEP! Go for the 5-drawer units. With the drawers out, they are fairly easy to move.

A few years ago, I was going for one, 5-drawer unit from Craigslist, but the guy had two of them and made me buy them both in exchange for him delivering them to my garage. Needless to say, they stacked nicely and I had no problem filling them up with prints.

Build your bed on top of it. No go on the garage...too much temp and humidity and fluctuation. Keep it in an environment you can control.

Yeah feedback would be nice, I have room for that. Price wise and size....

But in the end isn't a portfolio more convenient?

A portfolio is more convenient but not as safe in my opinion. First you have to stuff all your prints into the sleeves which can be very risky, and then you have to make sure you put the portfolio in a place where people won't accidentally bump into it.

I know. It seems way too cheap to be of any quality. I'm pretty confused.
