How often do files come up in your area? Unless you're really desperate or unless files rarely come up, I'd hold out for a bigger one. I have one with 36" drawers and one with 42" drawers. The bigger one is absolutely worth it for a couple of reasons. First, I have a lot of prints that are longer than 36". Second, in the bigger one you can fit two piles of the 18" x 24" posters perpendicularly in a drawer with a little room to spare. And you don't have to worry about it if they're not exactly 24" or less, or if you keep them in sleeves that are longer than the print.

Regarding a base, if you're going to have it on the floor, it's really nice to have a base.

Also, the CL ad clearly states those are "base bottom" units. I think that means they don't have a top, which you'd have to make yourself. A lot of guys on here have done really cool plexi tops for them so that the top poster in the top drawer can be seen through the top of the file. Really cool, but also a lot of work.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how many prints you can SAFELY store in a 2" flat file drawer? My prints are bagged so a bagged estimate would be even better if possible.

I'm gonna say 40 in regards to clearance of opening & closing the drawer.
