Art Coverage on Homeowners Insurance?

Tried using the search feature, to no luck. Probably operator error.

I'm sure most of us bundle our home / auto insurance policies here, but what about art? There was a recent thread over on UAA about coverage, but after a few emails most of those companies and users who are UK based won't cover in the USA.

Just got off the phone with progressive, who gives great rates no doubt about that, BUT I asked about art and their policy is just whack. They will do an extra $50,000 on your policy for rather cheap for fine art / statutes but couldn't give me a real answer as to what is considered fine art, with appraisers, etc. So it's a little annoying to say the least.

With that said, who has added coverage on their current home / auto policy? What insurance company do you use? and have you ever had to make a claim? What do you need to do to show value?

For those who do it separate, who do you use? Have you ever had to make a claim? What do you need to do to show value?

Let's get this discussion rolling.

lol this has been gone over in detail on so many occasions here on on UAA its hysterical. That said the wife was pestering me to look into it too so I am interested to see this all re-hashed.

It definitely has, but for some odd reason I can't find the thread. Not to mention I seem to recall only one place being talked about and it was just a collectable insurance company and it stated nothing (as I recall) about using your current home / renters policy.

For the record, I love my home / auto policy pricing with progressive, but they just bothered me after getting off the phone with them.

Plenty of companies will "insure" anything. Good luck collecting on most of the fudge from this forum.

Yep, that's the issue for sure. Good thing values of some of our stuff could be traced back to auction house sales.. unlike all those pop culture works.

And yes, I suck at searching. Kangfirmed.

I clicked all those links, just for one company? Thanks brah! I actually laughed at the amount of links I just clicked.

But yeah collectibles insurance was the one that I recall being on here in the past.

I just scheduled the items on my homeowners policy. Unless the piece is over a certain amount...say $5k, I used EB as a source for value. That was before the 6 month average feature sh!t the bed.

I doubt there's been anyone here who's had to collect on a claim for an entire collection of prints that's been damaged or destroyed. I would be surprised if they didn't receive pennies on the dollar (if anything) or at best the original sale price of the piece (with receipts).

So after vigorous hours of searching :D

Going with https://www.minicocollectiblesdirect.com

I asked a bunch of questions, but the most important reply back from them was this.

"The claim would be paid out at current market value as long as you are able to provide documentation of current market value and you were insured for the market value amount."

If only there was a website that had a big database of sales history for this stuff we collect, eh?
