If you're going to go to the trouble of getting one, get one that's wider than 36". Unless you have no intention of picking up prints that are 24 x 36 and such.

Totally agree with this. I have both a 36" one and a 43" one. I cannot tell you how much better the bigger one is. So much easier. If you're going to go for a flat file, spend a little extra and get a bigger one.

Just found one that looks really nice 53" X 41" X 22"
Good shape. Has a top and it's $275

Sound like a good deal?

I have one that size here at work. it's a beast, but it easily accommodates my oversized posters & prints.

Sweet. Good to hear. Are you able to carry it yourself or do I need to bring someone?

Not quite but sort of. I was Mr. Olympia in 1999. I've let myslef slide just a touch but I'm still in the gym 6 days a week. I alternate days between lower and upper body. Pound protein shakes on the reg. You know, just typical maintenance.

This is not the answer I was expecting! So maybe you could. Still probably too bulky for one person.

3 people would be ideal.
mine has 10 drawers but they are very shallow. the file with the top is about 16" tall. I had a custom base on wheels made for it. file is made by Stacore.
I recommend that you remove the drawers (it's not terribly difficult) to make it manageable. 2 strong guys could move it this way.
avoiding stairs and have a 2 wheeler would also be helpful.
best of luck.

I just checked it out in person. Apparently I'm terrible at judging dimensions. The thing is massive and my house is tiny so my search continues. Thanks for all of your help just the same. If anyone in Seattle has the space, it's in great shape and is a great price. Cheers.

Here's the one I looked at today. For some reason it looked a lot bigger in person. Maybe the frames on top give it some perspective. Just not sure I have room for it unless I put a TV on top of it or something like that in the basement. I'm wondering if I'm just misjudging the size of these flat files in general. As in maybe something that would fit a 24X36 print with a little room to spare really isn't that much smaller. Arg... I can't decide.

Here's the listing and here's the pic I took.

Depending on the size and amount of prints you have, they do make archival storage boxes that would easily fit under a bed. There are also art portfolios and you could always just buy a couple of sheets of foamcore and make a print sandwich. Really depends on how much you have and how much space you have.
