Just like the title asks, would my framed prints be OK with a 55 gallon or bigger tank in the same room?

What exactly is your fear here? The humidity? That's certainly not something I would be worried about. The humidity in a room in North Carolina is going to be much worse than a room in Southern California with a 55 gallon aquarium in it. If you're worried about the aquarium spontaneously exploding and dumping 55 gallons of water onto your flat file, then you've got bigger problems like why things in your house are exploding.

Yep, potential wrinkles. It would be in a room with only one door, not an open living area. Got AC though.

Yeah. I really don't think that's going to make any difference whatsoever. The humidity in humid climates is WAY more intense than anything that a single aquarium in a room would produce and people still hang art.

I'm rather astonished people are saying this is a bad idea. Really folks. Reaaaaaally? You think an aquarium is going to produce enough humidity in a room WITH AC to justify not hanging art?

if you're going to submerge the print in the aquarium, be sure to seal the framed print with plastic and a lighter prior to submerging it.

I wouldn't do it but then again the only way I handle my prints is with a full Haz Mat suit on so I'm not sure I'm the one to be giving out advice.

Never had an issue. I had a 55 gallon salt tank. I have a HUGE MBW framed above it (Floated). I even put a hygrometer above it to check on rh levels. They did not really get any higher than the rest of the house.

I kept a 100 gallon tank in a 270sqft room with prints for years. when some of the prints were removed from frames there was nothing wrong with them.

like another poster mentioned, your regional weather is going to affect your humidty a lot more than a tank. I've had gig posters (definitely cheaper ones) hung in bathrooms where the whole place fogs up with a steamy shower I made sure the frames were sealed well with a glued on kraft back. No negative affects seen on those cheapy prints, even with the ones i had touching the glass no spacers or mat.

If you live in a place like SoCal as I do, things simply don't get that humid. If you live in the south where things do get humid, I imagine your air conditioning is taking care of the humidty levels in the house. If you're in a humid area and sweating balls on your couch with no AC, well I don't think a 55 gallon tank is going to contribute anything more than you already have in the air.

I think the common sense here is just don't put the prints above or near the tank. If you are going to keep silk screens in the room or somewhat close, I'd advise framing them with a mat or spacers to keep the ink of the print from touching the glass.

I have a 55 gallon tank in a room where we have had a few prints framed for almost a year. Recently I took two frames apart to upgrade to museum glass and the prints still look perfect. I'm not sure what the long term effects could be but there's hardly any evaporation except for in summer time.

I pretty much live in a desert climate so humidity has never been a concern of mine though.
