So in May last year I purchased this Inglourious Basterds from a member here, in mint condition. Could not be in better nick.
Because it was my most expensive print at the time at I went all out with the framing as soon as I received it - museum glass, framed to full archival quality.

So anyway, late last week I noticed a little blemish/scuff near the bottom of the print (below the zero of the birthday date), that was not previously there. Just suddenly appeared. The framed print has not been handled whatsoever/hasnt been touched since I put it up on the wall over a year ago.

The mark looks like someone has lightly scratched it with a pencil, or a paperclip.

I just took it to my framer for his opinion, and he had no idea what it is. We took apart the frame to see if it were a smudge on the glass or whatever, but nope it's on the print. Have no idea what it is and why it happened.
It's now sitting with him so he can reassemble the frame.

So... does anyone here know what this is? have you seen anything like this before?

(im not too fussed with value as im not selling this, but im curious)

cheers

I have a whole bunch of Stouts, but I've not seen anything like that appear on my prints...

Thumb print from the printing process? Natural oils have gathered microscopic dust over time?

It does look like it could be a thumb print. That's a bother. But nothing too worrying I think.

It's really hard to notice (from the photos) unless you are looking for it. Do you have any photos from when you first had it framed to see if the spot was there before?

I saw a similar smudge on my buddy's SotD print I framed for him. I used a document cleaning pad, and it came right off.

To me, it looks like dust accumulated in a spot, or it could be a smudge from when it was handled from the printer. You can try the document cleaning pad to see if it helps. Otherwise, not a huge deal in the long run.

I have a photo somewhere, but it definitely was not there before. I take note of all my framed stuff, and the mark would not be more than 2 weeks a old. It just appeared.

Thanks for the advice about the cleaning pad, might be worth a shot.

I can't really tell if it's from the outside or underneath. If underneath it may be something from the framer? Hopefully not but I've seen it happen before.

That is a good point. How was the print affixed to the backing?

it's not underneath. There's not a mark on the back of the print.
