A little update on my file project. Missing drawers covered, new cast iron handles, pipe base assembled and attached.

Left to do: attach front label holders, side rail on base, line the drawers, and finish the top.

I have a metal (heavy as hell) 10 drawer flat file available for sale/trade. Not looking to get a ton for it. Located in East Lansing, Michigan. Will provide pics as needed.

Thanks theperfecttree and piper27. I think I will be able to finally work on the top this weekend. Really wanting to get this thing home and have a nice storage for some art.

I know I can find some links on here for the acid free plastic print sleeves, but does anyone have recommendations for some sort of hard backing? (to prevent the works from bending or creasing when getting them out.)

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas on adding some kinda locking device on a older Safeco flat file that does not have the knock-out for the lock??

Thanks six! I was mulling over a few ways I could diy and that second video gives more some other ideas. Just need to keep the little one from getting too curious.

I went with a Sandusky from Jet.com. It's not the fanciest option on the market, but it gets the job done. Shipping was free and I was able to use a 15% off coupon. It definitely suffered a few scratches and dents during delivery, but nothing too serious. Jet gave me the option of returning it or taking an additional $30 credit-I opted for the credit making it an even better deal.

Amazon has a decent price on these as well and they're prime eligible.

Nice! Could you please post a close up of the handle? I bought a very similar handle for my mini flat file. It would be cool if they were the same.

Oh my gosh! That is incredible! I'm currently in the market for my first flat file and have been hoping to come across something in wood.

Just got some glassine sheets for my flat file (5 drawers). What is a good amount of prints per drawer without worry of damage?

I just picked up my second oak Mayline flat file from the same vintage as the one that was restored above. The new one with the two deep top drawers is bigger overall so it'll help with a few prints that wouldn't fit it the other. These things are gorgeous on their own with the wear/character, but I think I'll do a little sanding and clean up on these two as well. I'll need to get some proper labels made up so I can get rid of the printer paper and post it notes.
