Also, aside from the oak, here are a few teasers of others.

That last color looks awesome! I'm thinking of doing something similar with mine since I've got a lot of browns in my living room where I'll keep it. Keep up the good work!

Are you using an airless sprayer in the metal files?

Man, this is inspiring. Would you recommend sanding down paint on a metal flat file even if the current paint is still in good condition?

They're being painted with a spray rig. Rather than doing these with spray paint, I wanted them to look better and not spotty. Due to this, I ordered automotive paint. Luckily, I'm fortunate to know great people that are willing to lend a helping hand. I'm not performing the actual painting, a crew is.

I've done it both ways.

I had a slate grey Mayline file and I just spray painted it black without sanding it down. I didn't even prime it. The paint looks great.

For these current files, though, they were sanded and primed before painting. The main reason for this was to remove rust.

Went out last night to put another coat on the file to try to deepen the stain a bit.

Still need to stain the inside of the shell, seal it, add the hardware and then lay the glass. Aiming to have this one done by Sunday.

For the best results, always sand the finish at least a little. If the paint is all good and no dents, just hit it with 600 grit lightly, it's not a much about removing paint as it is prepping a good surface for adhesion. Your paint will last much longer and lay more even if you do this.

(I've painted all kinda of things and have a few body shop friends and they know their stuff.)

EDIT: awesome work billy and keep the pictures coming, you have some great ideas.

And finally, stained the inside of the oak:

Two sheets of glass ordered (one for the oak, one for the white).
