Sorry for asking what might be a stupid question.

I'm looking for some foam board and have come across this, but I'm not sure if it's any good.

As you can see it doesn't go into great detail but the parent page (http://www.discountart.co.uk/category/foamboard) mentions this...

"environmentally friendly foamboard: made with acid free paper, our foamboard is pH neutral, non toxic, CFC free and made of recyclable polystyrene."

Will this damage the artworks. I'd be using for a foamcore sandwich and possibly backing for when framed.

cheers,
Rick

Acid free foam-board is considered safe for artwork and is commonly used by custom framers that have a reputation to protect. It is not top of the line from an archival standpoint so a museum that needs things to last forever would not use it. Bainbridge makes acid-free foamboard that is also treated with their artcare technology that helps provider more protection. There are also foamboard coated with cotton rag board instead of paper that are even more truely ph neutral. (paper is not truely ph neutral, it is processed to make it neutral). Another option is to mount the image to 2-ply rag board and then back it with foamcore for support. 2-ply rag board is to thin to be used a mat board or backing board support but it is less expensive than thicker 4-ply or 8-ply.
