Any suggestions about what to do with the back of this flat file? I think my wife wanted to mod podge it or maybe upholster it with some cool fabric, but wondering if anyone else has any good ideas.

You could always get the same wood as the unit and fill it in.

With it being a centerpiece, I agree that finishing it with the same wood would be best.
However, do you have kids? If so, since I imagine they won't be allowed to touch the art inside, maybe paint the left, right, and rear sides with chalkboard paint. That way, they can share their art with your art.

Oh great idea on the chalkboard paint! They have their own area upstairs though, and in the basement, so maybe my flat file should stay alone. Hmm.

The words coffee table/flatfile combined scare me.

^Yes
If you can find the same wood and handles as the drawer side, you could make that side look like it has drawers as well.

The handles I bought on amazon, and the wood was whitewashed, so I think if I find something similar (if not the same) might be a great idea just to finish out the back as well. Thanks for the advice!

looks nice man, good job.
I've always thought that a metal lip just below the top but above the top drawer would prevent a spill from killing the prints inside. It'd have to be flat, then taper down and out. Jussa thought.

Did you only glued/screwed wood panel on a metal flatfile? Or made a wood flatfile?
Thinking about making the same as a coffee table.
I am just wondering if i have to buy a metal and ask for customizing it or directly order one in wood.

Is this a custom file or where did this come from? Like it.
(Looked through the thread and didn't see this info- apologies if it's been mentioned already.)

Craiglisted it. I think it looks nicer with the handles we installed/ whitewash than it did originally. It's very ikea-esque, not real wood (at least under the drawers, etc.)

Could I ask where you originally got that flat file? You sold it?
