Could anyone explain the process for using a soft brush? Is it just small-light-pressure circles?

That being said, I'd leave your print the way it is.

Ok, time to bump this thread…

Just bought one of my long time ISOs, EMEK's 2005 Nine Inch Nails / QotSA Calgary gig print. I was told it was in mint shape, and when I received it, I discovered a bunch of scuffs throughout the black areas of the print. See below:

I contacted the seller and he suggested I try a trick to get the scuffs out, and if it doesn't work, he will refund me in full. So what's this special trick you ask? Well, wash your hands clean. Dry your hands. Pour some water in a cup. Take the tip of your index finger and get it slightly wet (a thin layer only), and dab the scuff gently until the water evaporates.

Low and behold, this worked perfectly! No shine, and the water didn't bleed through the print.

Scuffs in dark/black inks drive me nuts. And seem to be quite common. Always looking for a way to rid myself of them.

Just leave is as. Seriously experienced advice. Scuffs don't really show in a frame job or in the flat file. Only when you shine them against the light or at certain angles.

I tried this method on a print this morning and it worked like a charm. The print is 6 years old so I was skeptical that the ink would be "fresh" enough to work out the scuffs but I tapped them right out. No ink on my finger afterwards either so I don't think it is sacrificing the integrity of the ink in the scuff spots.

I bought Prismacolor brand (color grey) putty eraser.
Don't use this stuff: it didn't make anything worse--it just didn't work.
There's thousands of scuffs on my (signed!) DKNG Paramount 100 years poster, and its driving me INSANE!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Peace

Highly disagree. I also used this a long time ago on the same print, and if anything it was worse. Use caution.
Interesting that people are getting different results.... I use this for the scuffs on dark ink and it has worked for me. Looks to be a similar product to the one above. Worked wonders on a Danger Print for me. Side note the Mars plastic erasers work well for concentrated areas on white, but for scuffs I like the cleaning pad, I think it has everything to do with the pressure you user and of course the scuffs that you are trying to get out.

I wouldn't use that thing.

speedball is water soluble ink. Lick your finger, move in a circular motion.......It's really quite simple.

Only use this if you have graphite or smug on a white paper print. And use sparingly. Small circles.

We used these in drafting classes for graphite smudges on drawings. We also used a horse hair brush to remove the eraser dust.

Works. Confirmed for me. Thanks!

Do it dry, no need for the lube. :D
