Newsted says he quit because Metalica Inc. (Hetfield) wouldn't support his side project. Could also be other fudge, but nobody really knows.

im not sure it was "support" his side project. they basically said if you do a side project, you are out. which seems absurd

Yeah, I dunno how it went down but JN seems to have thought there was going to be some support from the band's mgmt, which ended with Hetfield

^ my thoughts exactly. jason was harshly treated by the ulrich/hetfield machine.
the 'jason' version of 'Justice' is much better. The guitar hero version of death magnetic is better that the main release too.

Metallica have released a music video for each song from the new record "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct". I have given all the tunes a listen and it is not bad overall - with a couple of standouts. some are a bit slow. cranking the vids up to 1.25 speed on a few of the songs makes a surprising difference.

two of the new tunes that immediately jumped out were:

Spit Out the Bone

and
Murder One - which is a great tribute to Lemmy

totally absurd.
given how some other bands have no problem with side projects e.g. pearl jam, and it hasn't hurt them too badly, it just makes hetfield and ulrich's attitude at that time seem stupid.
these musician guys are creative beings and if music is there outlet let them do it as a solo artist, or in another band, and then when it is 'out of their system' for a time and their commitment to the 'main' band is required they return back ready to channel their creative musical energy in that direction.

I had never heard that about Newsted. If that's true it's mind boggling.

I think a large part of Hammett not having writing credits on this album was due to this shambles: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/kirk-h ... ica-album/

Hit and miss for me, as others have said Spit out the Bone is the true standout, few others that I really like (Murder One, Moth Into Flame, Confusion) the rest I can take or leave.
