Weber barely even shoved him. Yes, it was a dirty play but Zetterberg was obviously trying to play it off. Hats off to the NHL for not falling for that one. But at the same time if it was any other team Weber would do that too, NO FINE.

I HATE Detroit if you haven't noticed

If there was any time left in the game Zetterberg would have got up instantly and skated off. But since there wasn't he had to sit there like a pussy and draw some attention to himself to make his loss not look as bad.

that may be true...my point is discipline should be administered on intent, not result.

I don't see how you can make abstration of the result. It's how it works in real life ain't it?
That being said, Weber's move was stupid and I thought a 1 Game suspension would have been fair. I'm not outraged he didn't get any though.
It was not really dangerous..

That's very true. Two players shoving and pushing each other in the corner is hockey though.

i think it's pretty simple. watch the video 100 times and make a decision on the players intent. let that decide the punishment. dont call the wings and find out zetterberg is ok then give weber what amounts to a $16 fine to the person who makes $50k/year as opposed to a suspension if he isnt ok. does the result change what weber did, or what his intent was?

maybe it's just me, but heads are nothing to mess around with. slamming someone's head into the glass is vicious IMO.

"S Weber earned $7.5M this season. He played 2,040 minutes. $2500 is about 40 seconds. He was fined one shift's worth of pay."

i know how much he makes. my point was $2500 to his $7.5 mil is the same as $16 to someone that makes $50k.

Whether or not you/I like the teams involved: that seemed like a pretty vicious move to me. He was obviously trying to shove his head right into the glass.

Intent should have something to do with the consequences / outcome. Otherwise a player may think it's OK to try again.

ahhh gotcha....Let's be honest, any fine amount given to any professional athlete isn't shit! They got money to burn and could care less how much they get fined. Some might bitched, but deep down they know it doesn't matter.
