Here's something I didn't think I'd see today: the Cubs are open to trading Kris Bryant. They're not actively shopping him but they're willing to listen to trade proposals for almost all of their players on the roster.

So awards season has started. On Monday Shohei Ohtani won the AL ROY while Ronald Acuna Jr. won in the NL. I'm not surprised Ohtani won but I don't agree with it. Yes, for the sample size we had where he was a 2 way player, he was surpassing expectations. However, due to the number of games he missed due to injury and Andujar's better overall numbers, I felt he (Andujar) deserved to win it. Had Torres remained healthy, I thought he would have bested Anduar's numbers personally.

Bob Melvin won Coach of the Year for the AL and Brian Snitker won in the NL. I'm a little surprised by both as I thought Alex Cora and Craig Counsell would have won in their leagues. A case could easily be made for all 4 men.

I was very happy to see the voters got the Cy Youngs correct for each league. Blake Snell in the AL and Jacob deGrom in the NL. I'm glad deGrom's win-loss record of 10 (the fewest ever by a Cy Young winner) didn't prevent him from taking home the hardware and he was far and away the best pitcher in every other category. I hope going forward they'll continue to rely less on a pitchers win-loss record.

MVP's will be named later on today. I'm predicting Mookie Betts and Chrisian Yelich to win.

In comparison:
Walker Buehler, SP, Dodgers – 137.1 IP, 2.62 ERA, 151 SO
Jack Flaherty, SP, Cardinals - 151.0 IP, 3.34 ERA, 182 SO

Remove his last 3 appearances and IP & ERA would be about the same, Cardinals just pushed him too much in that playoff push.

Flaherty came in 5th for NL ROY, That sounds about right and glad I wasn't the only one that thought he was close.

Nice jamel-d. Japan's on my list of places to visit and I always said I'd love to see a baseball game while I'm over there to compare the experience to here in the States.

My wife and I visited last fall. It’s a beautiful country, you will not be disappointed. Next time we go, a game is definitely on the itinerary.

Yankees get James Paxton in trade with Seattle. While I'm happy to get a talent like Paxton, I do have concerns with his ability to stay healthy as last year were the most innings he's ever thrown in a season at 160 1/3. Plus, they had to give up their top prospect Justus Sheffield and 2 other prospects. Personally, I would rather have used Sheffield in a trade with Cleveland to try to get Kluber.

Yankees signed J.A. Happ to a 2 year deal with the third year an option. I'm glad to see their restraint and not give in to Corbin or Eovaldi's demands for an additional year. The rotation now features Severino, Tanaka, Paxton, Happ and CC with Jordan Montgomery coming back from TJ surgery at some point this year. Cashman said he may not be done adding to the rotation. I think he needs to shore up the bullpen as well. Plus, there was that wild rumor about the Yankees getting Noah Syndergaard in a 3-team trade with the Marlins and Mets (that will not happen at all).

Britton resigns with the Yankees for 3 years and $39 million. Glad to see them do something with the bullpen after passing over Andrew Miller and letting David Robertson depart for Philly.

The Yanks have signed both Troy Tulowitzki and DJ LeMahieu. Looks like they're out of the Machado sweepstakes. A little disappointed we won't get his bat but glad they won't be pinned down by a $300 million+ contract.
