The Ebay Advice Column
anyone ever have a random name show up on your account?
just printed a label for something I sold and a random company name 'Maine Needham Company' showed up as the sender. still had my address below, but not my name. PayPal has no idea why this happened and can't tell me why. I've never heard of that company, never typed the company name in before - but as I pressed "SUBMIT" on the PayPal.com/shipnow screen it switched over to that company name.
I'm currently 20 mins on hold for a specialist that hasn't been able to solve it yet.

For those keeping track, add this buyer to the list: azubiy
Buys item and files PayPal claim as "item not as described." My theory is he already owned the item and it somehow got damaged. So, he bought mine and filed the claim. Luckily, I keep meticulous records. This moron isn't worth dealing with.

just an fyi.. might be interesting to see them enforce this though.
Our updated User Agreement will take effect on September 19, 2017 for new users and on November 1, 2017 for all other users. The updated User Agreement was posted on eBay.com on September 19, 2017.
The key update to the eBay User Agreement is that we’ve made it clearer how we address violations of our policy on offers to buy or sell outside eBay. Sellers who violate this policy may be charged a final value fee for the applicable item, even if it doesn’t sell.

Saw that. I'd like to see them try to do that to me.
Also noticed last week after buying something that I could see the seller's email address. Is this a new thing? I don't buy from eBay much but I never remember being able to see the sellers email address after sending them payment. As a seller, I don't like it. No sir, I don't like it one bit.

In the past I've always seen seller's email address when sending payment through paypal. this is how i maybe once got busted by a gallery for instaflip (learned my lesson there).earlgreytoast wrote: Also noticed last week after buying something that I could see the seller's email address. could be wrong on timing, but i thought this info was quite common after a purchase. obviously obfuscate-able if you have different ebay and paypal email addresses.

yeah, im pretty sure youve always been able to see it through the paypal payment. as for eBay transaction email/info, not sure. then again, you have always been able to request the sellers info.

OK thanks guys. Like I said, I'm rarely a buyer.

Again, just posting to vent... why do sellers not respond to best offers? Seriously, just let it ride out and never respond. Sure my offer was kind of low, but I expect to get a counter offer, not silence.
OH and it's the only auction they have listed, so it's not like my offer got lost in the shuffle. I can only assume they are waiting for a better offer. But that's what the counter offer is for...

I just had a guy send me a low ball offer so I countered with an offer that was 5 cents less than the BIN price. I changed the listing to include a floor at which offers would be auto-rejected. The guy came back with an even lower offer which was auto-rejected. I added him to my blocked list. Problem solved.

Well my offer was what I WANT to pay, not necessarily what I'm willing to pay. I do get where you are coming from, but seeing as I treat best offers as a way to haggle to a price, if I send what I want, and they want to meet in the middle, then I'd be paying more than what I'm willing to pay, so hence my lower offer. And I don't see an offer 25% below their BIN price as low ball, that would 50% lower or more than their BIN.alittle wrote:Instead of low-balling and waiting for a counter, why not just offer what you actually want to pay?

What's your eBay handle so we can look out for these glorious "offers"?Mapman wrote:Well my offer was what I WANT to pay, not necessarily what I'm willing to pay. I sent an offer of $100 on a $135 BIN, was hoping to get it for around $110-115. The issue here isn't the offer amounts, it's the complete silence from the seller, why list it with Best offer, if you aren't going to respond.

If he only has 1 item listed, ebay probably isn't much of a priority for him and he may never have even seen your offer.
One of my anti-pet peeves in life is looking at items I have for sale and seeing all the lowball offers that were automatically declined.

If you're using the mobile app to create a listing, E-bay has been defaulting all BIN listings w/best offer - there's no way of removing it unless you use the desktop site (unless the problem is only with iPhone). But still, it takes about 5 seconds to send a response.Mapman wrote:I sent an offer of $100 on a $135 BIN, was hoping to get it for around $110-115.
